Toronto's Art Shoppe Kicks Off Closing Sale This Week

One of Toronto's largest luxury furniture stores is shutting its doors.

Castlefield District's the Art Shoppe announced on Tuesday that they'll be closing once they sell out of their current inventory.

The Art Shoppe has been a go-to for Toronto's fashion-forward since it opened in 1936 at Yonge and Eglinton. The brand's fantastic quality, service and selection helped the store gain a large fanbase, ultimately leading to its expansion to a 70,000 sq. ft. facility in 2015.

A spokesperson for the Art Shoppe confirmed to Toronto Storeys that the store's large closing sale will commence this week.

The Art Shoppe isn't the only Toronto furniture store calling it quits. The Junction's SMASH, Parkdale's Queen West Antique Centre and the Hideaway, as well as Leslieville's Machine Age Modern, have all shuttered their Toronto storefronts.

Unlike the Art Shoppe, however, the owners of SMASH, Queen West Antique and Hideaway have found new homes in Hamilton where rent is cheaper.
