Get ready for rain – and lots of it. According to Environment Canada, heavy rain is possible today, which has prompted the weather agency to issue a Special Weather Statement for Toronto.
On Thursday morning, an area of rain will move northward from Ohio before crossing lake Erie and western sections of Lake Ontario through the middle of the day. As a result, there is a threat for rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 millimetres across some areas by this evening. This rain is associated with the remnants of tropical depression Bertha and is weakening as it moves northward.
The weather agency says there is still uncertainty about which area will receive the highest amount of rain; however, rainfall warnings may be issued this morning.
According to Environment Canada the rain will begin to fall in Toronto around noon and will last until 7 pm. The rain is forecast to return on Friday when there is also the risk of a thunderstorm.
