The weekend ahead is poised to bring Toronto a mix of rain and sun, but one promise remains consistent: there are a number of road closures to be aware of over the next few days.

This weekend, Toronto’s ActiveTO programming will cause two sections of roadway throughout the city to close, while additional roadwork will impact the Gardiner Expressway.

These are the road closures you’ll want to plan ahead for:

ActiveTO closures:

From Saturday, September 12 at 6 am to Sunday, September 13 at 11 pm, these are all of the roads that will be closed:

  • Bayview Avenue from Front Street East to Rosedale Valley Road, and River Street from Gerrard Street East to Bayview Avenue;
  • Lake Shore Boulevard West (eastbound lanes only) from Windermere Avenue to Stadium Road. The eastbound Gardiner Expressway off-ramp to Lake Shore Boulevard West (exit #146) will also be closed.

This week, the stretch of Lake Shore Boulevard East between Leslie Street and Woodbine Avenue will not be a part of the weekly closure, as nearby closures are planned for Gardiner work. In the meantime, the Martin Goodman Trail and beaches will still be open for use.

According to the City, the ActiveTO road closures will be in place every weekend up to and including September 27.

On warm weekends especially, the city says popular recreational trails like the (waterfront) Martin Goodman Trail and the Lower Don Trail have been overcrowded. The recurring weekend and holiday closures of major streets adjacent to these trails serve as a way to ensure people have space to practice physical distancing.

Additional closures:

  • From 6 am on Saturday, September 12 to 6 am on Sunday, September 13, the Gardiner Expressway will be closed eastbound, from Yonge Street to Cherry Street, due to the Gardiner Expressway Rehabilitation Project.
  • From 6 am to 8 pm on Saturday, September 12, two left-turn lanes will be closed on the Gardiner Expressway East, impacting the Lower Jarvis street ramp at Lake Shore Boulevard East. No left turns will be allowed for traffic coming from all directions, and down from the Jarvis off-ramp.
