The Labour Day weekend is poised to bring Toronto a mix of rain and sun, but one constant is promised: there are a number of road closures to be aware of over the next few days.
This weekend, Toronto’s ActiveTO programming will cause three sections of roadway throughout the city to close.
These are the road closures you’ll want to plan ahead for:
From Saturday, September 5 at 6 am to Monday, September 7 at 11 pm, these are all of the roads that will be closed:
- Lake Shore Boulevard West (eastbound lanes only) from Windermere Avenue to Stadium Road. As a result, the eastbound Gardiner Expressway off ramp to Lake Shore Boulevard West (exit #146) will also be closed
- Lake Shore Boulevard East (eastbound lanes only) from Leslie Street to just south of Woodbine Avenue (Kew Beach Avenue)
- Bayview Avenue from Front Street East to Rosedale Valley Road, and River Street from Gerrard Street East to Bayview Avenue
Remember that parts of major roads in #Toronto are closed to vehicles this long weekend, from Sat., Sept. 5 at 6am until Mon., Sept. 7 at 11pm. Please access them on your bike or as a pedestrian since nearby parking is limited.

According to the City, the ActiveTO road closures will be in place every weekend up to and including September 27.
On warm weekends especially, the city says popular recreational trails like the (waterfront) Martin Goodman Trail and the Lower Don Trail have been overcrowded. The recurring weekend and holiday closures of major streets adjacent to these trails serve as a way to ensure people have space to practice physical distancing.
