We have to prepare you for this Toronto road closure, because there will be traffic madness around the intersection of Broadview Avenue and Dundas Street — until July 23.

Toronto already has the worst commute in North America and the sixth worst commute in the world. And this will not help our ranking.

Due to TTC work to replace and repair streetcar tracks in the busy Riverdale area, the closure at Broadview and Dundas will certainly cause many traffic disruptions.

Only northbound travel will be permitted on Broadview Avenue, between Gerrard Street East and Dundas Street East.

The City of Toronto will keep one lane of traffic open in each direction on Broadview between Gerrard Street East and Danforth Avenue.

While it’s anticipated to reopen on Monday, July 23, there will also be a second phase of work.

That next phase will see a shutdown at Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street East from July 24 to September 8.

Take note, during the closure, the City of Toronto is urging drivers travelling east-west to use Eastern Avenue to the south and Gerrard Street and Danforth Avenue to the north.

Those heading north-south are urged to use Parliament Street to the west and Jones Avenue to the east.

Most of the work is expected to take place Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Also, the 505 Dundas busses will be diverted along Dundas Street East, River Street, Gerrard Street East, and Broadview Avenue.

The city says 504 streetcars will not go to Broadview Station, but will be extended to Queen Street East and Kingston Road.

A temporary bus service — the 504D bus route — will start at Broadview Station and loop back along Parliament Street, Front Street East, Berkley Street, and King Street East.
