Travel and Leisure is giving Torontonians even more reasons to celebrate this holiday season. The prestigious travel publication recently named Toronto one of the 50 best places to travel in 2019.

Toronto's been landing on a lot of expensive lists this year: most expensive rent, expensive housing market, expensive cities to date in... shall we go on?

So, it's nice to land on a list that doesn't remind residents how costly it is to live in the city. This list is purely about showing off our city pride.

To come up with this year's list, Travel + Leisure staff poured over tourism statistics, hotel openings, restaurant debuts, and new flight routes. And, of course, they consult travel experts from around the world.

With places like Maderia, Portugal, The Seychelles and Brisbane, Australia on the list, Toronto's in good company. And it's not even the only Canadian spot on the list.  The province of Alberta also nabbed a spot on the coveted list thanks to Jasper and Banff’s powdery trails.

"Toronto has long been a center of Canada's cultural production, but this year, the city is raising its art game: the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto Canada has reopened after a three-year, $13 million relocation and expansion," Hannah Walhout wrote on the site.

Wallhout also teases upcoming art exhibits the Toronto Biennial of Art, Winter Stations,  and, of course, Nuit Blanche Toronto.

Art was a big influencer for Travel + Leisure who even picked hotels based on their design and artistic appeal. Their top picks? None other than the Kimpton Saint George, the Anndore House and the St. Regis which is more than a hotel—it's one of the city's most luxe residences too!
