Toronto’s Pearson International Airport was named the best ‘large’ airport in North America for the third year in a row by Airports Council International (ACI) World.
Pearson shares this year’s award with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in the “Over 40 Million Passengers” category.
“The Airport Service Quality Awards represent the highest possible recognition for airport operators around the world and recognize excellence in customer experience,” ACI World Director General Angela Gittens said. “The awards this year have been won by a diverse group of winning airports from around the world which illustrates the industry-wide commitment to delivering exceptional customer experience.”
According to their website, the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) data collection programme “applies a three-level quality funnel process combining remote and on-site auditing to review a total 157 unique check points to ensure ASQ data collection guidelines are achieved by all participating airports.”
In a release, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) outlined a few of the improvements they’ve made in the past year to increase its airport experience, including:
- 26 new retail stores, restaurants, and other services
- Enhanced Duty Free options
- New accessibility features
- Expanded flight services
As well, Deborah Flint, president and CEO, Greater Toronto Airports Authority, wanted to “thank our passengers for voting for us once again, and we want them to know we’re continuing to work on improving their travel journey.”
The award comes amidst fears of the rapid spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, a spread Pearson is attempting to limit by implementing new safety measures.
Other Canadian airports to make ACI’s list include Jean-Lesage International Airport in Quebec (best in North America under 2 million passengers) and St. John’s International Airport (most improved in North America).
