Premier Doug Ford has announced the state of emergency in Ontario has been extended another two weeks.

The state of emergency has now been extended until April 15, after the initial order expires tomorrow.

Ford made the comments at Queen’s Park on Monday during his daily update on the province’s response to COVID-19.

Ford introduced the first two-week state of emergency on March 17 and said at a news conference on Monday that it will be re-evaluated every two weeks.

During Monday's announcement, Ford said that he was upset to see how many people were outside over the weekend and urged residents to continue staying indoors and practice social distancing. He added that every option is on the table and his government is ready to take further action to stop the spread of the virus.

This news comes as health officials confirmed 351 new known cases of coronavirus on Monday, bringing the province’s total up to 1,706. A total of 23 people have now died from the virus in the province, while 431 patients have recovered.
