Mississauga continues to experience rapid growth, both in terms of developments and population, with the addition of the incoming Hurontario LRT, the downtown Exchange District, the sprawling Square One District, and the waterfront community Lakeview Village, all of which are set to revolutionize the city.

The original master plans for Lakeview Village was initially approved by Mississauga City Council in July 2018. Since then, changes to the plan have been made, painting a clearer picture of what residents can expect.

The highly anticipated Lakeview Village Square will include the development of a 177-acre site, which once housed the Lakeview Power Generating Station lands. As a brand new neighbourhood beautifully situated on Lake Ontario, this ambitious project will have access to the QEW and Highway 427.

According to new project statistics, the scale of the project has expanded since last fall. Once completed, Lakeview Village, which is set to be a mixture of residential units, institutional, and cultural uses, will be home to approximately 8,000 units, including townhouses, mid-rise, and taller buildings, with space for up to 20,000 residents.

Lakeview Village by the numbers:

  • 20,000: The anticipated number of residents
  • 8,000: The number of units available, from townhouses to mid-rise and taller buildings
  • 9,000: The total long-term jobs (includes construction and employment)
  • 1,800,000: The number of square feet available for employment
  • 200,000: The number of square feet available for retail
  • 10 - 12: The number of acres available for campus and cultural lands

The project will be built alongside the Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area, a project being run by Credit Valley Conservation, Region of Peel, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. The Conservation Area is located to the southeast of the main Lakeview Village area along Lake Ontario and has been under construction since November 2016; a recent video from Credit Valley Conservation captures the progress made in developing the land.

Updates to the master plan include the addition of Ogden Park, a centralized park that will run through the project, stretching from Lakeshore Road all the way down to the waterfront, giving everyone in Lakeview Village a direct connection to the Lakefront.

Recent plans also reveal the lakefront area will feature both a boardwalk and waterfront trail, kayak and canoe docks, a marina, and cultural and events spaces that will host seasonal activities.

While there isn't any new information on when construction could begin, last month, Lakeview Community Partners resubmitted Subdivision and Rezoning documents and submitted an Official Plan Amendment application to the City of Mississauga.
