Torontonians and basketball fans are invited to attend a memorial outside of Scotiabank Arena to honour the life of legendary basketball superstar Kobe Bryant who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash over the weekend at the age of 41.
Bryant was one of nine passengers in the helicopter that crashed into a hillside in Calabasas, California, killing everyone on board, including Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna.
According to reports, the helicopter was flying in very foggy conditions with low visibility. The cause of the crash remains unknown.
Following the news of the crash, admirers from around the world began mourning the all-time basketball great online, who spent his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Here in Toronto, the city honoured the former Laker by changing the colours of the CN Tower and Scotiabank Arena to glow purple and gold.
The memorial in Toronto is scheduled to begin at 10 am on Tuesday, January 28 and will take place at Jurassic Park in Maple Leaf Square.
Sending condolences to the family and friends of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, and all those lost in today’s tragic crash. Thank you to the @Raptors for honouring #KobeBryant at the start of today’s game. https://t.co/mRf0uj7nbu
