GO Transit is keeping their promise to deliver good news to commuters. Days after announcing the Toronto - Niagara Falls extension, GO Transit is now adding extra morning and evening trains to the Toronto and Kitchener route.

On Monday, Transport Minister Jeff Yurek said the extended service will mark a 25 per cent increase in service between Toronto and Kitchener starting on January 7, 2019.
Like commuters on the Niagara route, passengers will need to get up early to take advantage of the service. The morning train will depart from Kitchener at 5:40 a.m. making stops in Guelph and Acton before arriving in Toronto.
In the evening, the train will depart from Union at 3:35 p.m. continuing past Georgetown, Acton and Guelph before stopping in Kitchener.

Also, like the Niagara route, this extended service has arrived ahead of schedule. The government previously promised all-day service between the two cities by 2024. With yesterdays announcement, all-day service could arrive much sooner.
There is a cost associated with all this change, however, and it's not only impacting commuters. According to Yurek, the extra trains will cost taxpayers close to $1.1 million.

The new service routes are great for the economy. Increased service could mean good news for the Kitchener real estate market.
“Cutting commute times between Toronto and Waterloo region creates jobs, breaks down barriers to doing business and will further cement our reputation as a global leader in the innovation economy,” Kitchener Mayor Barry Vrbanovic said in a statement.
“Today’s announcement is a welcome first step towards achieving these goals; we look forward to more progress towards establishing fast, frequent, two-way all-day transit across the Toronto-Waterloo innovation corridor.”
