Taking GO Transit on the weekend is about to become a lot cheaper.

Metrolinx is is bringing back its 'Sunday Funday' unlimited ridership pass just in time for spring, according to Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins.

"Great news!" said Aikins on Twitter during a Metrolinx board meeting Thursday. "CEO Phil Verster announced that the very popular $10 Sunday Funday pilot will be back starting March 1 on GO Transit, allowing unlimited travel."

The best part is adults, seniors, and students are all eligible for the pass, which allows unlimited access to GO trains and buses every Sunday for just $10. Children under 12 ride for free, as usual.

To take advantage of the pass, which returns March 1, riders can select their station of origin and intended destination on the passes tab, then select $10 ‘Sunday Funday’.

The online pass will be emailed to you and can be used through your smartphone. Just remember to activate five minutes prior to boarding a GO train or bus and the pass is only available online – not at stations or by using PRESTO – as it is being tested out.

Here’s an example of some of the potential savings through the program:

  • Taking a trip from Oshawa GO to Toronto, cash fare to Union costs $12.25 – you’ll save 18%
  • Union Station to Burlington GO, and back again, would cost $24.60 – giving you a savings of 59%
  • Or if you’re travelling between Allandale Waterfront and Union Station, a regular round-trip ticket would cost $31.60 – a savings of 68%
  • Niagara Falls to Toronto and back for just $10 isn't a bad spring option either.
