Food tastes better when it's free Toronto. So this weekend we have a great lineup of free food events going on across the city. Be sure to check out some returning favourites like the Pickering Food Truck Festival, before checking out a movie under the stars.


After that massive rain this week, we want to make sure you have an entire weekend plan to enjoy the gorgeous weather on your days off.

1. Taste Of The Danforth

When: Friday to SundayWhere: Danforth Avenue

Toronto's annual Taste of the Danforth is celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year. There will be great food from local vendors, along with lots of free entertainment and fun. We even have an entire guide to the festival you can find below.

2. Sweetery: Canada’s Largest Sweets Festival

When: Saturday and SundayWhere: David Pecaut Square

Celebrating the world of confectionery is what this festival is all about. Toronto's very own local chefs and students will be showcasing their culinary talents at David Pecaut Square.

3. Sail In Cinema: Labyrinth

When: Friday at 5:00 p.m.Where: Sugar Beach

Toronto's Sugar Beach will transform into the largest outdoor movie theatre.

Movies will be shown under the open skies on a two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour. You can watch movies for free from Sugar Beach or Lake Ontario. And this year there are no tickets required to attend.

When: Saturday at 5:00 p.m.Where: Sugar Beach

5. Paws In The Park

When: SaturdayWhere: Woodbine Park

For the second year in a row, Toronto Humane Society will be finding homes for some of their adorable canine pals right from Woodbine Park.

Aside from the adorable, adoptable pooches, there will be extraordinarily delicious food, a pet photo booth, shopping in our Vendor Village, face painting, free doggy training sessions and much more.

6. Weekend Nature Adventures

When: Saturday at 8:30 a.m.Where: Downsview Park

Every Saturday from August 11 to 25, The Keeley is hosting free guided nature tours around the neighbourhood. From cycling to hiking and bird watching, you can explore Toronto’s forested ravine system and Downsview Park’s picturesque landscape.

7. Can. You. Read. Festival

When: Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 6 p.m.Where: Artscape Wychwood Barns

A free one day event where literacy meets food security. Bring a donation of a canned protein and receive a free book. All donations go directly to local Food Banks.

8. Outdoor Screening of Before Sunrise

When: Sunday at 6 p.m.Where: Christie Pits Park

This late summer evening in the Cinematic Cities series savours the quieter pace of cities after dark, and the unique friendships and romances that can be found in the hours when most have gone to sleep.

9. MPP Mitzie Hunter's Annual Summer Fun Fest

When: Sunday 12:oo p.m. to 3:00 p.m.Where: Morningside Park

Celebrate Mitzie Hunter's five years as your MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood. Free food, music, performances, children's activities and more will keep your Sunday busy.

10. Pickering Food Truck Festival

When: Saturday and SundayWhere: The Esplanade Park

Back for another weekend only in Pickering, The Food Truck Festival is serving up some real must-eats. As always, admission is free and there’s something for everyone. Entertain yourself with some of Toronto’s best local talent, participate in eating challenges, and enjoy a cold beer
