An Eglinton Crosstown LRT construction site has temporarily closed after three construction workers have contracted the coronavirus, forcing part of the already delayed $5.3 billion project to stop for full disinfecting.

One worker is confirmed to have the virus, while two others are presumptive positive but are waiting for official confirmation from the national lab in Winnipeg, according to reports.

As reported by CP24, Crosslinx Transit Solutions, the company tasked with building the LRT, said the employees worked in the office at the West Portal site, located near Black Creek Drive and Eglinton Avenue.

All people who may have been in contact with the infected workers are now being contacted and provided with Toronto Public Health’s self-assessment tool. They are also being advised to speak with their health care providers.

Additionally, the team that worked with the three infected workers will not be working for the next 14 days.

Anne Marie Aikins, a spokesperson for Metrolinx, said the transit authority wishes the workers a “speedy recovery.”

This news comes just days after Premier Doug Ford deemed construction sites as one of the essential businesses that can remain open while the province is under a state of emergency as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

However, Ford did later say his government would not hesitate to shut down any construction sites that are not taking the necessary steps to help protect its workers and limit the spread of COVID-19.

Toronto Storeys reached out to Crosslinx Transit Solutions for a comment but had not heard back by the time of publication.
