It’s not Christmas in Toronto until the Cavalcade of Lights is lit. 2019 marks the city’s 53rd year. The free event usually draws close to 50,000 people and promises to be the best holiday party in town.

Try to “use the facilities” beforehand as navigating these dense crowds to a restroom – especially with kids in tow – can be a challenge.

There will be a traditional welcome with Elder Garry Sault of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation before the 50-foot tree gets lit (metaphorically and literally)!

Look up because circus act “Les Oiseaux” by Les Chasseurs d Reves will feature life-like, large, wooden bird puppets – manipulated by stilt-walking knights – will be performing at 6:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m. and 9:35 p.m..

A pre-show skating party with DJ Mel Boogie – pioneer of Canadian hip-hop and past opening act of legends like Lauryn Hill, Busta Rhymes and more - kicks off the event with style and rhythm at 6:30.

There are many features of the event which make it accessible for all Torontonians, including three dedicated accessible viewing areas for people with disabilities and their support persons and service animals. There will also be accessible parking areas.

Music by the Lemon Bucket Orkestra, a Canadian, self-described “Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk-Super Band” begins at 8:35

An elaborate fireworks show put on by pyrotechnic geniuses Group Fiatlux-Ampleman begins at 9:30, makes the party a true spectacle and worth the trip into the downtown core.

Riit, a new electropop musician from Nunavut will be on the main stage rocking the Inuktitut lyrics and synth cuts.

Creations In Vivo will be bringing some eccentric characters to the party as well. Sway in synch to the rhythms of her character “The Queen”.
