Here’s What You Need To Know To Vote In Today’s Federal Election

Looking to vote today? Here’s the drill.

To vote, according to Elections Canada,  you must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old on election day, and prove your identity and address.

The only remaining way to vote in this election is at your assigned polling station today, Monday, Oct. 21.  Polls will be open for 12 hours (hours vary by province).

Not registered? You can still register when you go to vote at your assigned polling station.

And here’s some last minute voting tips:

POLLING STATIONS: They are open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. People in line at 9:30 p.m. will still be able to vote.

INFORMATION CARD: Bring your voter information card that came in the mail to help you figure out which station to go to. If you didn’t get one look up your voting location on the Elections Canada website using your postal code and even print a registration certificate to take with you to. No internet access? Call 1-800-463-6868. Forgot your voter info card? No problem but it does make the process go quicker.

BRING ID: All you need is your driver’s licence with your current address on it, or another piece of government-issued ID with your photo and address. If not, you’ll need two pieces of ID, such as a health card or drivers licence and a document such as a hydro bill or phone bill with your address on it. If you’re homeless, you can vote with a letter of confirmation from a soup kitchen or shelter along with a piece of ID.

NO PICTURES: No pictures/selfies allowed. Period.

CHILDREN: Yes, you can bring kids AND they can  come with you behind the screen if necessary.
