UPDATE: On April 12, The TTC modified weekend closures to accommodate sports fans around St. Andrew station. From the start of service until 11 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 13, Line 1 will be closed from Bloor/Yonge to Union Station. From 11 p.m. on Saturday until the start of service on Monday, all nine stations from Bloor/Yonge to Osgoode will be closed.
This week’s early nightly TTC subway closures may have been cancelled, but the same cannot be said for the weekend.
Nine stations on Line 1 will be closed on Saturday and Sunday due to the installation of the new Automatic Train Control signalling system.
The signalling system upgrades and Eglinton Crosstown project are taking a major toll on TTC riders. According to the TTC, the two projects will result in 73 subway closures this year. As of the second week of April, commuters can expect 58 more closures this year.
Here’s what you need to know about this weekend’s closures…
There will be no subway service on Line 1 between Bloor/Yonge and Osgoode stations on Saturday and Sunday due to signal upgrades. That covers Wellesley, College, Dundas, Queen, King, Union and St. Andrew terminals.
How To Navigate The Closure
Shuttle buses will operate along the normal subway route, as will Wheel-Trans services. Buses will stop at all the regular subway station stops, just outside the typical zone.
How To Pay
If you’re paying with PRESTO during the subway closure just tap your card when you first board the TTC.
If you are transferring from the subway to a shuttle bus or from a shuttle bus to the subway don’t tap your PRESTO card again. Unlike normal subway to bus transfers, shuttle buses do not need a second tap.
Cash and token fares will still be accepted on the shuttle bus, which will get you a transfer onto the subway (and vice versa).
All normal service will resume on Monday after the weekend.
