World's Most Liveable Cities In 2018: Toronto Ranked One Of The Top Places On The Planet

Toronto is — still — officially one of the most liveable cities in the world.

After a seven-year reign, Melbourne has lost its title of world’s most liveable city. Out of 140 cities, the Australian city placed second on the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2018 ranking of the world’s most liveable cities. It missed out on first by just 0.7 per cent.

The top spot in 2018 goes to Vienna, Austria.

Toronto finished in seventh place, tied with Toyko, Japan. Last year, Toronto placed fourth. It was one of three Canadian cities in the top-10. Calgary landed fourth on the list, while Vancouver squeaked just ahead of Toronto in the sixth spot.

The annual list assesses stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. On the whole, global liveability has improved for the second year in a row. The study indicates it has increased from 74.8 per cent last year to 75.7 per cent in 2018.
