10 Cheap Things To Do In Toronto This Weekend (Feb. 2-3)

After a week of extreme cold weather alerts, things are finally heating up in Toronto. To celebrate, we’ve compiled a list of 10 cheap things to do in Toronto that will get you out in the lights or on a pair of skates!

1. Toronto Light Festival 2019

Where: Distillery District
When: January 18 to March 3
Cost: Free!

This winter, come out of the dark and step into the light at the Toronto Light Festival in the Historic Distillery District. The festival runs from January 18 to March 3.

2. January Exhibitions Opening Reception At Xpace Cultural Centre

Where: Xpace Cultural Centre
When: January 18 to February 16
Cost: Free!

Xpace Cultural Centre is a not-for-profit artist-run centre dedicated to providing emerging and student artists, designers, curators and writers with opportunities to showcase their work in a professional setting.

3. DJ Skate Nights: Synthesexer

Where: 235 Queens Quay West
When: Saturday at 8 p.m.
Cost: Free!

Synthesexer is Toronto’s sexiest, alternative electro dance party, featuring the DJ trio of Little Kicks, Digits and ARP2600. Since 2013, they’ve hosted a monthly party at The Piston, where they play electropop, indie dance, house, synthy hip-hop, Italo disco, electroclash and Eurodance.

4. National Bridal Show

Where: Enercare Centre
When: Saturday and Sunday
Cost: $15

Get ready to say “I Do” to some amazing wedding vendors, super saving deals, and trending ideals for the 2019 wedding season.

5. The Best Of (A Stand-Up Comedy Showcase)

Where: Comedy Bar
When: Saturday at 7 p.m.
Cost: $15

The Best Of’ returns with an all-star lineup of the countries top stand up comedians. Featuring: Ali Hassan (CBC The Debaters), Kate Barron (Yuk Yuks), Hoodo Hersi(Just For Laughs) Sam Burns (JFL42), and Micheal Moses (Yuk Yuks). Hosted by John Mostyn.

6. Free Public Skating

Where: Evergreen Brick Works
When: Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost: Free!

Skating is back at Evergreen Brick Works! Experience the magic of one of the best skating rinks in the city. The Brick Works’ outdoor skating rink weaves through snow-covered gardens under exposed beams from the roof of the old brick factory.

7. Winter Light Exhibit

Where: Ontario Place
When: All Weekend
Cost: Free!

Ontario Place is a landscape of brisk wind, extreme temperature and intricate ice sculptures crafted by Mother Nature herself. Utilizing creativity, innovation, light and discovery, artists showcase their exhibits on West Island ’til March 17.

8. Forgotten Genius

Where: MZTV Museum of Television
When: All Weekend
Cost: Starts at $5

Forgotten Genius: The Boy Who Invented Electronic Television is a new exhibit devoted to the story of Philo T. Farnsworth (1906 – 1971), the man who revolutionized television and changed the future of communications on earth. The exhibit runs until April 15.

9. Zuul: Life of an Armoured Dinosaur

Where: ROM Museum
When: Regular Hours
Cost: Regular Admission Fees

Check out Zuul at the ROM, Dec. 15 – May 20 in the Roloff Beny Gallery on Level 4. This well-preserved ankylosaur was recently identified by ROM paleontologists as a new species. It lived 76 million years ago and was six metres long.

10. Coldest Day of the Year Ride: 2019

Where: Alexander the Great Parkette
When: Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Cost: Free!
