Watch This Rare 1932 Video Of Toronto Maple Leafs Vs. Montreal Canadiens At Maple Leaf Gardens

Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens make up one of the greatest rivalries in sports — of all time.

As the Leafs prepare to take on the Habs tonight at Scotiabank Arena to open the NHL season, let’s look all the way back to 1932 when the boys in blue faced off against the Canadiens at Maple Leaf Gardens.

This is a rare newsreel film we found of a 1932 game (released on film in 1933) between the iconic hockey teams, narrated by Foster Hewitt, the Leafs’ radio announcer back in the day.

At the time, the Habs were the defending Stanley Cup Champions. But the Leafs would go on to win the Cup in 1932.

In calling this game, Hewitt says it’s “the two fastest and smartest teams in the National Hockey League.”
